Quartzite Care & Maintenance Information

Quartzite is waterproof, stain-resistant, heat resistant, scratch resistant - in most cases it will just wipe clean with a damp cloth. All our Quartzite kitchen and bathroom worktops are sealed before they leave the factory, but they will need to be resealed on a regular basis - we recommend every 4 months. Oil based substances can sink into the Quartzite and take a long time to dry out so we recommend that all spills are always mopped up immediately.

Daily cleaning
For daily cleaning of Quartzite worktops, we recommend using damp (microfiber) cloth, warm water and either neutral (pH 7), mild alkaline (pH 8-10) or mild acidic (pH 4-6) detergent if necessary. You should prefer cleaning products specially designed for natural stone and avoid using highly acidic or bleach containing cleaning products. Abrasive materials can also easily damage stone surface – scourer or a grain of sand in the washcloth may cause micro-damage. Rinse with clean warm water and dry with a chamois leather or similar. Drainer grooves can however be cleaned using wire wool.

Preventing and removing stains
Be sure to protect Quartzite surfaces from staining and take special caution with worktops made of light rock. Whenever possible, avoid spilling chemicals and corrosive substances on worktop. Also, keep in mind that metal objects may easily scratch polished and leathery surface.

The best way to avoid staining is to remove dirt from worktop immediately, so that it would not dry and absorb in stone. Usually it is sufficient to use paper towel, water and detergent to clean the surface.

The longer the spills remain on Quartzite surfaces, the more likely it is subject to heavy staining. In case of heavy staining, we recommend using special cleaning products designed for natural stone. After using the cleaning product, we recommend to wash the worktop again with clean water and detergent.

Water based stain remover is formulated for the specific removal of stains of an organic nature, such as wine, coffee, nicotine, fruit juices etc.Alkaline degreaser for removal of dirt of an organic and greasy nature, spots, grease, pollution, smoke stains, lamp black, wax coating etc.

Avoiding heat damage and scratches
Although Quartzite is rather scratch resistant, we still recommend using cutting boards. Constant cutting without cutting board will damage both knives and worktop, causing its tarnishing and increasing the risk of staining.

Quartzite is very heat resistance, but we still recommend using special trivets for kitchenware taken straight from oven or cooktop. These will also prevent potential damage to the worktop, caused by rough-bottomed clay pots.

Long-term maintenance
In order to ensure long-term use, all surfaces are processed with special sealants. This helps to avoid absorption of liquids inside the worktop, thus also preventing potential staining. Based on the type of Quartzite and frequency of use, we recommend re-treating worktops with special sealant for natural stone surfaces at 1-2 year interval. Light Quartzite surfaces should definitely be treated once a year, darker surfaces in every 1-2 years.
